About The Song

“Tutti Frutti” is a song originally written and recorded by American musician Little Richard in 1955. It was covered by Elvis Presley and released as a single in 1956. While Presley’s version did not reach the same level of chart success as Little Richard’s original, it still became a staple of Presley’s live shows and is considered one of his classic recordings.

Presley’s version was released as a single in November 1956 as the B-side to “Blue Suede Shoes” . It reached #17 on the Billboard pop singles chart.

It was recorded during Presley’s famous sessions at Radio Recorders studio in Hollywood in September 1956.

Presley changed some lyrics from Little Richard’s original to make them less sexually suggestive for the mass market .

The song became a staple of Presley’s live shows for years. He performed it in early TV appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Milton Berle Show.

While not Presley’s biggest chart hit, it exemplified his energetic and rebellious rock and roll style that made him a star. It remains one of his most recognizable and iconic recordings today.

Got a gal named Sue
She knows just what to do
She rocks to the east
She rocks to the west
She’s the gal I love best

I got a gal named Daisy
She almost drives me crazy
She knows how to love me
Yes indeed, boy you don’t know
What she does to me
